Epson GX4 SCARA Robot
A compact 4 kg SCARA robot
that keeps speed and precision together.
Epson describes the GX4 as a compact body with rank above technology for high speed and low vibration. Three arm lengths from 250 to 350 mm. GYROPLUS vibration control. Standard, ESD and cleanroom versions.
Fast. Precise. Connected.
Every robot maker says high speed and high precision. Here is what those words mean on the GX4, in numbers you can picture, taken from Epson's published specifications.
Joints 1 and 2 reach a maximum speed of 4350 mm/sec on the 350 mm arm. On the 250 mm arm, one standard cycle takes 0.33 sec, so the robot completes about three of Epson's test cycles every second.
The 250 mm arm returns to a taught point within ±0.008 mm. The 300 and 350 mm arms return within ±0.01 mm, one hundredth of a millimetre. It lands in this tiny window cycle after cycle.
Wiring and air tubes for your gripper and sensors run inside the arm. With the RC800-A controller, the GX4 also offers conveyor tracking, a force sensor input and real time inputs, so it works together with conveyors, vision and sensors.
Move Faster Without Losing Precision
The faster a robot arm moves, the more it vibrates. Most robots handle this by waiting for the arm to settle before the next move, or by using a heavier, stiffer arm. Either way, you give up some speed.
The GX4 uses Epson's GYROPLUS technology. A small, precise quartz sensor sits at the tip of the arm and tells the controller how the tip is really moving. The controller then cancels the vibration directly, so the arm settles quickly and moves on to the next point.
The robot reacts to what the arm tip really does, not to an estimate.
- 1The arm makes a fast move to the next point.
- 2The quartz sensor at the arm tip senses any vibration.
- 3The controller corrects the vibration right away.
- 4The arm settles quickly and starts the next move.
Where the GX4 Earns Its Place
The GX4 suits work where speed, fine repeatability and a clean or connected cell all matter at once. These four examples show where its features make the biggest difference.
Place connectors, modules and small assemblies onto boards and housings. Repeatability down to ±0.008 mm keeps every placement in the same spot. GYROPLUS lets the arm settle fast between placements, so the line keeps its pace.
Handle semiconductor and medical device parts where particles and static must be controlled. The Cleanroom and ESD version is rated ISO Class 3. An ESD only version is also available for static sensitive work outside the cleanroom.
Fit the robot into a tight cell next to feeders, fixtures or another machine. The 350 mm tabletop model comes with a left or right curved arm option, which Epson offers for greater operating versatility. Choose the curve that suits your cell layout.
Pick parts from a running conveyor without stopping the line. The RC800-A controller has a conveyor tracking port, and Epson vision can locate each part before the pick. This pairs speed with the connected features of the GX4.

What Makes This System Work
-
GYROPLUS Vibration Control
A quartz sensor at the arm tip feeds real movement data to the controller, which cancels vibration directly. The arm moves fast and settles quickly without needing extra weight.
-
Left or Right Curved Arm
The 350 mm tabletop model is available with a standard, left curved or right curved arm. This gives you more freedom when you plan a compact cell layout.
-
Standard, ESD and Cleanroom Versions
Choose Standard (equivalent to IP20), ESD, or Cleanroom and ESD rated ISO Class 3. The Standard and ESD versions have a 150 mm Z stroke, and the Cleanroom and ESD version has 120 mm.
-
Tooling Lines Built Into the Arm
A D sub 15 pin connector, an RJ45 8 pin connector, one ø4 mm air tube and two ø6 mm air tubes (0.59 MPa allowable pressure) run inside the arm. Your gripper and sensors connect without loose external cables.
-
Controller Features for Connected Cells
With the RC800-A controller, you get conveyor tracking, a force sensor input, four real time inputs and three expansion slots, with control of up to six axes. All Epson SCARA robots run on the shared Epson RC+ software.
-
Battery Free Encoder
The GX4 uses a battery less encoder, so there are no encoder backup batteries to replace. That means less routine maintenance for your team.
Epson has more than 40 years of experience in precision automation and has sold over 150,000 robots worldwide.
The GX4 brings Epson's top class GX series technology into a compact 4 kg robot, with a 150 N Z axis press force and ±0.005 deg repeatability at joint 4.
Built for Precision Manufacturers
The GX4 serves electronics, semiconductor, medical device and precision assembly teams. It fits best where output, placement accuracy and a well connected cell all count.
You need more output from the same floor space without more rejects. The GX4 gives you a short cycle time in a compact body, with repeatability that stays steady shift after shift.
You need every part placed in the same spot, every time. The GX4 returns within ±0.008 mm on the 250 mm arm, and GYROPLUS keeps that precision at speed.
You design cells that bring together conveyors, vision, feeders and tooling. The GX4 offers tooling lines inside the arm, curved arm options, and conveyor tracking and force sensor inputs on the RC800-A controller.
